We aim for all our children to be enthused and curious about History. Our curriculum is informed by the National Curriculum and guides the children to develop their knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Chronology
- Evidence and Interpretation
- Cause and Consequence
- Change and Continuity
- Similarity and Difference
- Historical Significance
We have a different history topic for each term. In Key Stage 2 we follow a 4 year rolling programme and in Key Stage 1 we follow a 2 year rolling programme; this reflects our mixed aged classes.

The children have ‘Steps to Success’ in their History book for each new topic. This ensures the children reflect on their learning and they also know what they will be learning next. These are marked at the end of every lesson by the teacher and child.
Our topic displays clearly show the key questions that will be covered during each topic and we ensure that key vocabulary is also displayed here. The display is then built up over the period of each topic with examples of the children’s work.
